Over 1.3 million Tibetan farmers out of poverty in ten years


The population of impoverished farmers in southwest China's Tibet autonomous region was reduced from about 1.48 million in 2001 to 168,000 by the end of 2010.

With the efforts of the central and local governments, over 1.3 million Tibetan farmers, whose annual per capita income was under the poverty line of 1,300 yuan ($205), have overcome poverty. Over the past ten years, 3.675 billion yuan was allotted for over 4000 poverty alleviation projects.

With the implementation of these projicts, the net per capita income of Tibetan farmers reached by 4138.7 yuan in 2010 from 1404 yuan in 2001.

It is said that in the 2011-2015 period, the regional government will allot over 300 million yuan annually to help 122,000 households of low-income families out of poverty.
